Fuel Rail

Safety precautions when servicing fuel rail components involve preventing smoking or using open flames near the area due to present flammable mixtures. Start by removing pressure from the fuel system before separating the battery ground cable. The correct procedure involves starting with the removal of the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling at the fuel rail before proceeding to separate the fuel rail pressure and temperature vacuum tube along with its electrical connector. First disconnect the electrical connectors for each of the four fuel injectors and then unfasten the nut allowing you to move the radio capacitor. After that detach the wire harness retainer from the valve cover stud bolt and finally eliminate the two pin-type wire harness retainers from the fuel rail. Drain the fuel rail by removing its two stud bolts then extraction of the assembly consisting of the fuel rail and injectors. Dispose of the eight O-ring seals designed for the fuel injector installation. New fuel-resistant material O-ring seals need engine oil lubrication before installating the fuel injectors with their retaining clips. Install the fuel rail together with the injectors by using the two fuel rail stud bolts which should be tightened to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). Use the pin-type retainers to secure the fuel rail and reinstall the wire harness retainer on the valve cover stud bolt before readjusting the radio capacitor while tightening its nut to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Reposition the final wiring connections which include fuel rail pressure and temperature vacuum tubing together with electrical couplings as well as fuel supply tube quick connectors at the rail and terminal battery ground.

The presence of highly flammable mixtures requires that you prevent both smoking and open flames when working on the fuel rail because this can cause personal injuries. To prevent injuries the fuel system pressure must be reduced completely before performing any work on fuel tubes or components when the engine is not running. Start your procedure by emptying the fuel pressure after disconnecting the cable that grounds the battery. Dispose of the eight fuel injector O-ring seals which need to be removed first. New fuel-resistant O-ring seals are essential for installation since regular O-rings will leak when used; the installation process must not include reusing old seals. The installer should apply clean engine oil onto new O-rings before placing the fuel injectors together with their retainer clips in position. The original spacers for the fuel rail should be positioned before the fuel rail assembly including injectors goes into place. After installing the fuel rail bolts with a torque of 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) users must replace the wiring retainers. Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors before attaching the fuel rail pressure vacuum tube alongside its electrical connector. Afterward connect the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling at the fuel rail and the battery ground cable.

You should maintain safety when working with the fuel rail since open flames and smoking need to be entirely avoided because the rail contains explosive fuel mixtures. The first step should focus on removing system pressure since the fuel pressure stays high from engine shut-off. To begin work on the fuel rail first disconnect the battery cable before detaching the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling installation at the fuel rail location. After disconnecting the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor connector and vacuum tube the service proceeds with removing its four fuel injector electrical connectors. Disassemble the radio capacitor by removing its nut before separating its wire harness retainers from both the valve cover stud bolt and two fuelling rail pin-type retainers. The two fuel rail stud bolts require removal before taking out the fuel rail assembly with its injectors. The mechanics need to remove and discard eight O-ring seals which belong to fuel injector. During installation use new O-ring seals created from fuel-resistant material which need clean engine oil lubrication. The fuel rail and injectors can be reinstalled as one unit after installing both retainer clips to the four fuel injectors that must be carefully tightened with fuel rail stud bolts at 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). The installation requires reconnecting both pin-type wire harness retainers to the fuel rail while securing the wire harness retainer at the valve cover stud bolt. Position the radio capacitor before installing the nut which should be tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Repeatedly connect the four fuel injector electrical connectors and the vacuum tube and electrical connector for the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor as well as the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling at the fuel rail, and the battery ground cable.

They should be lubricated with clean engine oil.

Carefully remove the fuel rail and injectors as an assembly, then take out the spacers.
