Knuckle Assembly, Driver Side

The first step for working on wheel hubs requires placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL position while hoisting it on a stand. The shock absorber and spring assembly must come off before tackling an upper arm removal. The illustrations and tables present an ordered sequence for removing suspension components which should be followed exactly. The brake caliper pad and anchor plate removal must be performed carefully because hanging the caliper from the hose can result in damage. The removal of the lower arm-to-frame bolt begins with removing screws as well as pushpins and shield to expose the bolt before taking out the nuts and bolts while setting the steering gear to one side to free up the lower arm bolt. Follow installation of the lower arm by checking and aligning the front end if needed. The lower arm-to-frame nuts should remain loose until the installation process finishes along with the vehicle resting its weight onto wheel and tire assemblies. The upper arm-to-body nuts should remain loose until all installation steps are finished with the vehicle weight resting on the wheel and tire assemblies. During wheel bearing and hub assembly installation you should apply a small amount of lubricant to the surfaces where the bearing meets the knuckle.

Follow the specified order to remove individual suspension components as indicated in the illustrations and tables.

Lightly coat them with High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant.

First take out the shock absorber and spring assembly.

Reverse the removal procedure for installation.
