The service procedure for hood latch repair starts by raising and supporting the hood. Start by disconnecting the hood latch release handle and cable and remove the hood latch through bolt removal and breaking the hood latch cable connection with the latch. Begin new hood latch installation by setting the latch in place followed by cable attachment after which use finger strength to tighten the bolts. Complete the installation by reconnecting the hood latch release handle together with the cable after which you should close the hood. Door Open of the radiator grille is necessary to gain access to hood latch bolts which need tightening. Tighten the hood latch bolts only when the hood aligns perfectly with the fenders. You can apply Multi-Purpose Grease F5AZ-19G209-AA (aerosol) along with products similar to Ford specification ESR-M1C159-A when needed.

A technician must elevate the hood for maintenance on the hood latch. Begin the procedure by disconnecting both hood latch release handle and cable and then remove the hood latch after removing bolts followed by disconnecting the hood latch cable from the latch assembly. During installation place the new hood latch and attach the hood latch cable before applying finger-tight bolts. Follow this procedure by reattaching both the hood latch release handle as well as the cable before repositioning the hood. To reach and tighten the hood latch bolts it becomes necessary to take off the radiator grille. Secure the hood by tightening the hood latch bolts after directing it to match the fenders properly. The latches require lubrication using F5AZ-19G209-AA Multi-Purpose Grease (aerosol) or an equivalent product which fulfills Ford requirement ESR-M1C159-A.

Start the procedure to service and repair the hood latch following the step-by-step removal sequence present in the table. The installation should be executed in the opposite order of removal. Checking the latch adjustment becomes necessary when installing a new hood latch because correct installation must be verified.

Take out the bolts securing the hood latch and release the hood latch cable from it.
