The process to repair or service the automatic transmission shifter requires center console detachment as the first step. You must disconnect the end of the automatic transmission shift lever cable from the automatic transmission shift lever to free the tab on the cable so you can uninstall it from the housing. If you want to remove the automatic transmission shift lever then start by disconnecting the electrical connector followed by removing four nuts. Install the automatic transmission shift lever in its position and fasten it with four nuts until achieving a torque of 12 Nm which equals 9 lb-ft. Reinstall the electrical connector while validating that the automatic transmission shift lever cable locking tabs secure the cable end to its ball stud position. Press the automatic transmission shift lever cable into the bracket so it clicks and verify the lock by pulling the cable back. The automatic transmission shift lever cable installation must start with correct placement of the ball stud end before the automatic transmission shift lever cable enters the automatic transmission shift lever housing. Insert the automatic transmission shift lever cable end to its location on the automatic transmission shift lever then replace the center console before modifying the automatic transmission shift lever cable length if necessary.
