Safety glasses should be worn while servicing the passenger air bag module because they reduce the potential for accidental injury. Handle live air bag modules pointing the air bag with deployment door toward a direction opposite your body positioning. Set these modules down with the deployment door never facing down. Following deployment you should clean your hands with soap and water to remove sodium hydroxide residues which create skin irritation. The connectors on an air bag module should not be probed for safety reasons and all modules with stained or broken deployment doors should be replaced rather than painted over. The use of memory saver devices should be avoided because they could result in personal harm. The RCM fuse removal with the ignition ON will cause the air bag warning lamp to activate but this is a normal condition that indicates no SRS system faults exist. Release a vehicle to the public only when you verify that all SRS systems work correctly without any malfunction. After system depowering proceed by opening the glove compartment to release the dampening strut from the left side and drop the door fully. Remove the two bolts that secure the module by disconnecting its two electrical connectors before tightening new bolts down to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). The module removal should be done by pushing through the glove box entrance instead of holding it by its edges so that you can release the deployment door clips from inside the instrument panel. The module installation must include proper seating of all deployment door clips and correct positioning of J-clips before module placement. Finally, repower the system.

These must be repaired or replaced as necessary.

Handle it with the air bag and deployment door pointed away from your body, and never set it down with the deployment door facing down.

Reinstall the headliner and repower the system, ensuring the SRS is fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle.
