    Q:
Should the Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Be Inspected and Repaired After a Collision on Mercury Mountaineer? Posted by Customer
    A:
An inspection and repair of the supplemental restraint system (SRS) with deployed devices like driver air bags alongside passenger air bags and seat side air bags or safety belt pretensioners should follow any collision since the RCM may show a DTC B1231 (Crash Data Memory Full) in its memory. The complete process involves removing all deployed devices followed by replacing these devices with new ones and implementing both impact sensors and RCM replacement. Repair or replace the impact sensor mounting points or hardware components in case they show damaged conditions. A new Clock Spring needs to be installed when the driver air bag module has already deployed. A complete examination of the car should start by inspecting the steering column then moving to instrument panel knee bolsters and mounting points before checking instrument panel braces and brackets and instrument panel mounting points and seats with their mounting points followed by safety belts and safety belt buckles retractor systems and examination of SRS wiring and wiring harnesses and connectors. The vehicle will only be available to customers after the repair or replacement of all inspected faulty components to guarantee proper SRS functionality and hazardous-free performance. A proper service requires SRS deactivation along with installation of diagnostic tools during servicing but all tools should be removed and air bag modules must be reconnected before system reactivation to stop any non-deployment incidents causing personal injuries.
