Window Regulator, Front Driver Side

Service and repair of the front door window regulator starts with the removal of front door trim panel and front door speaker screws followed by disconnecting the electrical connector. The first step involves removing the front door weathershield from its place. The Expedition model needs a window control switch connection to access two bolts which secure the glass to the regulator. Start by disconnecting the window control switch and then take out both bolts which connect the front door window glass to the regulator system. Secure the upper part of the front window glass using tape when it is positioned at the highest point. First dismantle the interior door handle before removing the cable conduit fitting of the carrier assembly while lifting the door handle retaining bracket and pivoting the handle out of its bracket to finally remove the cable running through the door handle. The front door window regulator harness should be placed aside after disconnection of electrical connectors and release of pin-type retainers. The front window regulator can be detached by first loosening the hanger bolts and then taking out the front window regulator bolts together with the front top run channel bolt. End the installation by following the reverse order of removal steps.

Service of the front door window regulator motor requires raising the front door window glass fully up while removing both the front door trim panel and the door speaker. Prior to drilling position the watershield to the side while smoothly relocating the electrical connector. A combination hole saw with 19 mm (3/4-in) diameter and 8 mm (1/4-in) pilot drills holes through existing drill dimples at the door for power window motor bolt access. You need to remove the electrical connector from the front door window regulator before taking off the power window motor but you must first position the regulator arms correctly to stop the counterbalance spring from unwinding since this failure point may lead to personal injury. The front door window regulator motor requires the removal of its bolts and installation of the regulator motor. During installation you should follow the removal steps backwards while rotating the window glass to check the gear functions.

Position the interior door handle aside, remove the cable conduit fitting from the carrier assembly, lift upward on the interior door handle retaining bracket, and pivot the handle out of the bracket to remove the cable from the door handle.

Remove the window glass-to-regulator bolts and the front door window glass, ensuring to secure the glass in the fully up position with tape to the front door frame.

Take off the rear door weathershield.

Reverse the removal steps for installation.

Connect the window control switch and lower the window glass.

Lift upward on the retaining bracket and pivot the handle out.
