A proper alternator repair and servicing process starts with eradicating the power connection to the battery. The next step involves loosening the band clamp to extract the air filter element and the inlet snorkel as well as the tray. Vehicles with A/C require a clockwise rotation of the accessory drive belt tensioner while cars without A/C need counterclockwise rotation before setting the accessory drive belt to the side. Before starting the service start by disconnecting electrical generator connectors while moving the generator B+ protective cover to the side. Detach the B+ terminal nut from the engine block before placing the terminal aside because reinstallation requires tightening to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Fasten the generator bracket using new bolts before tightening them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The two bolts securing the generator require removal before installation while torquing them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when reconnecting them.
