Shift Control Cable

Start the gearshift cable service and repair by setting the vehicle to NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Start the service by removing the battery tray. You should first disconnect the gearshift cables from the transaxle by using a finger to push the locking tab then removing the shift cable from the shift lever followed by removing the selector cable from the selector lever. The bracket attachment of gearshift cables can be accomplished by removing the abutment sleeve rearward followed by lifting the cables free of the bracket assembly. The exhaust flange needs to be separated from its rubber insulators before reinstallation while it is tightened to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Loosen and detach the center exhaust hanger before lowering the exhaust system while supporting it with wire. First disconnect the gearshift cables from the underbody cable clip after which remove six screws to separate the heat shield. Detach the floor console and the rear footwell heating duct. Gently pry off the gearshift and selector cables from their attachment to the gearshift lever then advance the abutment collar toward the front. Use a saw to divide the insulation layer after which you should fold it away to expose the floor whereas you need to remove the 2 present cable bracket nuts before extracting the cable bracket while tightening both nuts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) when reinstalling. Take out the gearshift cable assembly by drawing cables through into the interior compartment. During the installation return to the original removal steps while verifying an audible sound indicates proper cable alignment in the retaining bracket. The installation of duct tape across the insulation cut follows the adjustment of gearshift and selector cables when needed.
