A repair or service of the restraints control module (RCM) requires the ignition switch to be OFF together with keeping the original horizontal RCM mounting position intact since changes to this configuration might trigger safety canopy deployment. Any vehicle accident in the center tunnel zone requires an inspection of RCM mounting bracket deformations that warrant replacing the RCM module independently of air bag activity. Safety glasses must be worn for all repairs because accidental deployments might cause injuries and the use of memory saver devices should be avoided. Electronic units are vulnerable to static electricity because it leads to destructive effects. When the RCM fuse is removed during a period with ignition ON the air bag warning lamp should activate but it signifies no actual fault. Before returning the vehicle to the customer it is essential to make sure the SRS is working properly and that the correct RCM is present to prevent error DTCs. Use the thumb tab to unplug the large RCM electrical connector after removing the center console and resetting the connector position assurance lever. To proceed with the RCM removal disconnect the small RCM electrical connector using the retaining tab push-down method. The installation procedure requires fitting the RCM bracket and tightening the bolts to the correct degree to ensure proper system working. Complete the connection of the small RCM electrical connector when you ensure the connector position assurance lever is entirely free from its position. Thankfully press and align the large RCM electrical connector using gentle force until you hear an audible click followed by completing connector seating with the lever while checking the thumb tab position. Complete the process by putting back the center console and then power up the SRS system.

Push down on the retaining tab and remove the bolt.
