You must use safety glasses when servicing the air bag control module because it protects you from possible injuries related to accidental air bag expansion. The restraints control module (RCM) needs to be correctly oriented to ensure proper functioning of the air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS). The RCM must be replaced when the vehicle experiences center tunnel damage in a collision since the mounting and bracket need inspection for any sign of deformation. Since the RCM mounting needs to return to its factory set condition. After collisions check both the sensor mounting bracket and wiring pigtail for any signs of damage. Replace and correctly position all deficient SRS components. The use of memory saver devices should be avoided to minimize personal injury dangers. Secure the shifter properly next to your work area by installing its bolts at 7 Nm (62 lb-in) torque when reattaching the part. Follow the removal of the lower A/C duct by removing both the lower bolts of the ash tray housing before securing them at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque during installation. To disengage the large RCM electrical connector position assurance lever you must pinch the thumb tab to pivot it backwards before disconnecting the RCM electrical connector. Disconnect all RCM electric connectors after lifting the position assurance lever and remove the RCM bolts and housing by applying 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque. Seating of the large RCM electrical connector must avoid angular insertion to prevent faulty connection and ensure component safety when you apply a gentle force to guide it into proper seating before using the lever to settle it completely. The procedure ends with system repowering after completing the invertor and RCM installation steps.
