Side Impact Sensor

A proper sensor orientation within vehicles is essential for maintaining correct system functionality because vehicles which have Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) air bags need it. After collisions inspect the sensor mounting bracket as well as wiring pigtail for deformation. Replace the sensor or any SRS components which are damaged irrespective of whether the air bag deploys correctly. Disconnection of the battery ground cable followed by a one-minute wait together with disconnection of all auxiliary batteries and power supplies serves to deplete back up power supply before potential personal injury occurs. The service technician should execute installation by following the reverse order of removal while orienting the sensor correctly and applying proper air bag side crash sensor retaining bolt torque to achieve operational functionality. A proof test of the air bag system must be conducted post-installation. The restraint system diagnostic tool serves only for restraint system service and must be taken out from vehicles before road usage to avoid injuries because of safety standards potentially being violated.
