Rockford Motor Company requires that the Restraints Control Module (RCM) stays correctly positioned because it ensures proper air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) functioning. Vehicle owners should replace the RCM even if air bags were not deployed after destructive accidents to the center tunnel area. Additionally the repair must restore the mounting area back to its original state. The back up power supply requires depletion through disconnecting the battery ground cable followed by a minimum one-minute wait period and complete disconnection of any auxiliary batteries and power supplies to prevent accidental deployment and injuries. Electric parts will sustain damage because static electricity remains an issue for their operation. The process of repair requires installing new components but reinstalling the original parts may be needed before running the diagnostic check again for persistent issues. Start the removal procedure by disconnecting the battery ground cable first and then remove the right-hand RCM bracket retaining bolt before resetting the carpet at the right side of the Instrument Panel (I/P) center support bracket. The procedure requires removal of the RCM bracket retaining bolt and afterward the RCM together with its bracket. Begin by placing the carpet at the left edge of the I/P center support bracket and detach the RCM electrical connector locking clip. After disconnecting the electrical connector remove the two retaining bolts to let go of the RCM along with its bracket. After following the original removal procedures in reverse order check that RCM bracket retaining bolt torque values are correct to maintain system operational functionality. Air bag system proofing must happen after system installation. Before road use operators must remove the Restraint System Diagnostic Tool from the vehicle because it is exclusive for restraint system service and its presence represents both safety hazards and regulatory violations.
