Front Impact Sensor

A first step for servicing the front door side impact sensor requires verification of an undestroyed vehicle since any crashing will demand RCM and impact sensor mounting area deformation checks and possible restoration of the original production shape. New sensors together with RCM need replacement before returning a vehicle regardless of air bag deployment to prevent fatal harm to occupants. Customers must not receive their vehicle until the Supplemental Restraint System shows no faults after the correct RCM fuse removal makes the air bag warning indicator light up when ignition is ON. Begin by depowering the SRS. Start by cutting off power to the Supplemental Restraint System then separate the front door trim panel while disconnecting its wiring connector. The side impact sensor bolts should be tightened just enough for secure sensor position prior to removing the bolts along with the sensor itself. First apply the SRS power until completion before reattaching the new sensor according to the reverse installation process.

Inspect the restraints control module (RCM) and the impact sensor mounting areas for deformation if the vehicle has been in a crash.
