Tail Pipe

A vehicle positioned on a hoist with NEUTRAL selected is the first requirement when servicing or repairing the exhaust pipe. You should remove the muffler assembly-to-tailpipe clamp by loosening it before disconnecting the rubber isolator to extract the tailpipe. Install the new tailpipe by first attaching the rubber isolator before placing the new muffler assembly-to-tailpipe clamp on the surface and cleaning any rust-affected areas with an abrasive pad. Opposite to the last step you should properly align the exhaust system. The correct method for isolator protection involves applying only water-based lubricants because rubber deterioration can occur when using other substances. Also use new fasteners with identical part numbers as the originals while strictly following licensed torque values to achieve proper exhaust component retention. Exhaust system operatives should let the system cool down completely because the high operating temperatures create risks of personal harm mostly surrounding the catalytic converter.

Support the exhaust system with a suitable jack.

Reinstall the transmission support crossmember.

Remove the transmission support crossmember and then the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts, also discarding these nuts.
