Services and repairs on rear coil springs begin only after properly lifting the vehicle onto a hoist following placement of jack stands at the underbody pads before the rear axle trailing arm bracket and using a twin-post hoist. Before shock absorber removal start by taking out the bolt and nut which hold it to the rear axle assembly then support the rear axle with a jack stand while removing the bolt and nut and wheel assembly from the tire. Take caution when removing the spring because spring insulators could leave with it; use the jack stand to gently lower the axle before removing the spring. To install the 1962 F100 the rear axle assembly requires positioning the lower rear spring insulator in place before pressing it into proper seating. The upper rear spring insulator needs to be positioned on top of the spring before installation. Place the rear spring on the rear axle assembly before seating it correctly and using a jack stand to lift the assembly. Position the shock absorber on the rear axle and fasten the bolt alongside the nut. To finish the work, install the wheel and tire combination and remove the jack stand before lowering down the vehicle. The refitting process requires exact replacement of suspension fasteners with their original part number or approved equivalent parts and correct torque value application for maintaining proper component retention.

Carefully remove the spring from the vehicle, noting that the spring insulators may come out with it.

Slowly lower the axle using the jack stand and then remove the spring.

Position the upper rear spring insulator on top of the spring and install the rear spring on the rear axle assembly, making sure it is correctly seated.
