The service and repair of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system module tube starts by taking out the battery tray in vehicles with the 5.4L 4V engine. When installing or replacing an EGR system module tube for the 4.0L SOHC engine or 5.4L 4V engine you should tighten the connection to 39 Nm (29 lb-ft) or 42 Nm (31 lb-ft) respectively. Unplug the EGR system module tube from where it connects to the exhaust manifold fitting after which remove the tube. Users should reinstall the tube while tightening it to 39 Nm (29 lb-ft) for 4.0L SOHC engines and 42 Nm (31 lb-ft) for 5.4L 4V engines before performing the complete reversal of installation steps.

Service and repair the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system module tube requires users to start by removing the battery tray on vehicles with a 5.4L 4V engine. The EGR system module tube requires removal of its upper fitting from the module-to-exhaust tube connection where a torque value of 42 Nm (31 lb-ft) must be applied before reinstalling. After disconnecting the lower fitting for the EGR system module tube-to-exhaust manifold tube you should remove the tube by tightening it to 42 Nm (31 lb-ft). The installation of upper and lower fittings on 4.6L 3V engine vehicles requires a torque setting of 39 Nm (29 lb-ft). The installation ends by performing the reverse steps of removal.

Remove the battery tray.

Disconnect the upper fitting of the EGR system module-to-exhaust manifold tube.

Disconnect the lower fitting of the EGR system module tube to the exhaust manifold tube and remove the tube.
