    Q:
How to Service the EGR Valve on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve service process requires disconnecting the battery ground cable then draining the cooling system. Your service of the EGR valve requires disconnecting the coolant bypass hose and the EGR valve electrical connector. The shifting mechanism of manual transmission vehicles needs to be eliminated before the service process begins. First remove the rear driveshaft as well as the exhaust downpipe. A suitable transmission jack should support the transmission while technicians remove three bolts on each side of the crossmember and detach the transmission electrical connector from the crossmember before tightening all bolts to 99 Nm (73 lb-ft) each time. The crossmember requires removal along with retaining nuts so install it again while securing the nuts to 99 Nm (73 lb-ft). By lowering the transmission obtain access to the EGR valve, the EGR coolant hose should be disconnected before removing bolts which hold the EGR valve in place and require new gasket installation. The gasket mating surfaces should be cleaned before installing new gaskets with the EGR valve bolts secured to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). The installation ends when performing the removal procedure in reverse order.
