Q: How to Service the EGR Valve System Module on Ford Mustang?
A:
Begin service of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system module by disconnecting both its electrical connector followed by engine harness vacuum-to-EGR system module connector. The removal process continues with disconnecting the fitting between the EGR system module and the EGR system module tube. When installing the fitting on both the 4.0L SOHC and 5.4L 4V engines, users must torque it to 39 Nm (29 lb-ft) and 42 Nm (31 lb-ft) respectively. Choosing the correct EGR system module mounting gasket is important because different orifice sizes could affect performance; so remove the two bolts plus the EGR system module before discarding the old gasket while tightening the new one to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Non-metallic scraping tools and wire brushes along with abrasive materials must never be used to clean sealing surfaces since these create damaging scratch marks that produce leaks. However, plastic scrapers prove effective for cleaning soft metal surfaces. The installation process requires the placement of the new gasket with its raised circle oriented toward the opposite direction of the EGR system module.
A service of the EGR valve starts with draining the cooling system and disconnecting the ground cable from the battery. The EGR valve electrical connector must be detached before the removal of the rear driveshaft. You should remove the bolts that keep the catalytic converter fastened next to the muffler while throwing away the exhaust converter outlet gasket. The support system for transmission jack should match manual or automatic transmission standards during the procedure. Begin by removing the six bolts that secure the crossmember in place at each frame side before you can remove both retaining nuts along with the crossmember itself. Lowen the transmission by enough clearance and then disconnect EGR coolant hose followed by bolt removal of the EGR valve while discarding the gasket. The installation process requires following the opposite order of removal that includes gasket surface cleaning and replacement of gaskets on both parts.
