2000 Ford Excursion Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2000 Ford Excursion?
A: A proper timing cover repair or servicing process starts with disconnecting the cable from the battery and taking off both valve covers combined with the radiator and water pump unit. In bi-fuel vehicles you should also remove both compuvalve and vaporizer components. After raising and supporting the vehicle you can reach the top bolts and the lower bolt to shift the power steering pump out of the way. Begin service by detaching the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connector and removing the drain plug to drain engine oil followed by finishing the operation by take out the four front oil pan bolts and then lower the vehicle. Crankshaft front seal removal must be performed alongside disconnecting the electrical connection of the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor. Start by taking out the (B) belt idler pulley which can be followed by the (A) bolt removal and completion of the rest of the bolt extraction. Metal scrapers along with abrasive tools must be avoided for sealing surface cleanup since a plastic scraping tool should be used to eliminate old sealant. Begin by removing the frontal elements of the motor cover with gasket which must be cleaned before surface examination occurs. Install the new engine front cover after placing the gasket correctly while applying Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent material along the cylinder head to cylinder block surface and the oil pan to cylinder block surface. The front engine cover bolts need to be installed loosely first while torque is set to 20-30 Nm (15-22 ft. lbs.) for fasteners 1 through 7 and 40-55 Nm (30-41 ft. lbs.) for fasteners 6 through 15. Connect the CMP electrical link and fit a fresh crankshaft front seal to the system. The procedure calls for raising and supporting the vehicle again before adding bolts temporarily then making two tightening passes between 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) followed by 60 degrees additional torque. Proceed by attaching the crankshaft position sensor electrical connector, then place the power steering pump where the front lower hole remains empty before installing the bolts. Insert the drain plug before lowering the vehicle and reposition all components which include the valve covers together with the water pump as well as the compuvalve and vaporizer for bi-fuel vehicles. The process requires replacing the radiator along with filling the engine using Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or an equivalent product. Reconnect the ground cable of the battery during the last step of the process.
