How to service and repair a water pump on 2000 Ford Excursion?

The procedure for fixing or maintaining the water pump begins by emptying the cooling system fluids. The service begins with removing the engine cooling fan and continues with the drive belt followed by removing bolts to take out the water pump pulley. The water pump connected to the cylinder block requires removal of all its bolts followed by separation from the block before removing the water pump itself. Surface mating components must receive cleaning then inspection needs to happen before putting things into place. Use Premium engine coolant E2FZ-19549-AA (F5FZ-19549-CC in Oregon and CXC-8-B in Canada) or such coolant which meets Ford specification ESE-M971344-A to lubricate the new O-ring seal before installing it into the water pump position. Place the water pump inside the engine block then fasten it using the bolts. After securing the pulley to the water pump you can install the bolts before placing the accessory drive belt. To finish the repair install the fan followed by the fan clutch before refilling the cooling system.
