2000 Ford Focus Brake Shoe Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair brake shoes on 2000 Ford Focus?
A: Begin brake shoe service by first removing the brake drum and hold down springs followed by the pins. Do not harm the wheel cylinder boots while you detach the shoes from the wheel cylinder then break them away from the anchor block. Apply a rubber band to prevent wheel cylinder pistons from moving. Then disconnect the parking brake cable after pushing the lever and detaching the cable from its position. Disconnection of the strut requires first removing both spring attachments and then pulling the primary shoe outward from the brake shoe adjuster until the strut becomes loose. Caution is essential to handle the strut support spring tension during the process of moving the strut down and unfastening the parking brake return spring from the support. The installation process requires clean and inspected contact points of the backing plate where Silicone dielectric compound should be applied when needed. The parking brake return spring should be installed on the secondary shoe before applying the strut support followed by upward alignment of the strut. Place the primary shoe onto its position on the strut while the strut is installed and the shoe faces inwards with the adjuster rotating all the way clockwise. To finish the repair install the upper and lower return springs afterwards attach the parking brake cable by inserting and fastening its lever. Disconnect the rubber band from wheel cylinder pistons without harming wheel cylinder boots during the replacement process of anchoring shoes to both components. Start by putting in place the hold down springs and afterwards secure the brake drum and wheel hub assembly into position. The wheel speed sensor installation should be performed on vehicles which include anti-lock brakes. Operate the brake pedal followed by installing the wheels to achieve automatic adjustment.
