2000 Lincoln Continental ABS Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Bleed the Brake System After Replacing the Front ABS Control Module on 2000 Lincoln Continental?
A: The procedure to bleed the brake system includes cleaning around the brake master cylinder filler cap and removing the cap to add specified brake fluid into the reservoir before replacement of 4-Wheel Anti-Lock Brake (4WABS) Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) or HCU line opening. A clear waste line needs to be connected to the RH rear bleeder screw with its opposite end located in a container that contains recommended brake fluid but is not completely full. Tighten the RH rear bleeder screw with the assistance of an assistant who applies brake pedal pressure. Maintain brake pressure as you continue tightnening the screw until brake fluid runs steadily from the screw. Complete this routine by observing clear fluid with no bubbles emerging from the reservoir and then make necessary top-offs to the brake master cylinder reservoir. Start by tightening the RH rear bleeder screw then disconnect the waste line before going to the LH rear bleeder screw followed by the RH front disc brake caliper bleeder screw and concluding with the LH front disc brake caliper bleeder screw where you will repeat the same procedures. The scan tool DCL cable adapter needs connection to the Data Link Connector (DLC) underneath the dash before following provided scan tool instructions. The entire bleeding process should be executed once more according to the previous method.
