2000 Lincoln Navigator Axle Shaft Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the 8.8-Inch Ring Gear axle shaft on 2000 Lincoln Navigator?
A: The servicing process for Ford 8.8-Inch Ring Gear axle shaft begins with switching off the air suspension switch in the RH kick panel area to disable electrical power for air springs because it halts unexpected air suspension operations. First raise your vehicle along with the support before you separate both tire assembly and wheel from the rear section. Disassemble the brake caliper along with the brake disc while supporting the brake caliper with adequate protection for the brake hose. The next step involves taking off the differential housing cover while draining the lubricating fluid. Use socket tools to remove and dispose of the differential pinion shaft lock bolt and proceed with retrieving the differential pinion shaft. When you pull the axle shaft toward the inside to remove the U-washer ensure you avoid damaging the rubber O-ring present in the U-washer groove. When removing the axle shaft maintain the integrity of the wheel bearing oil seal. Install the axle shaft by applying Premium Long-Life Grease XC-1-C or equivalent Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B on the wheel bearing oil seal lip. After application, install the shaft while protecting the seal from damage. Before installing the U-washer keep it on the axle shaft button while pulling the shaft outward so the rubber O-ring in the groove stays intact. The threads of the differential pinion shaft require Threadlock and Sealer E0AZ-19554-AA with Ford specification WSK-M2G351-A5 applied if new lock bolts are unavailable for installation. The differential pinion shaft hole needs alignment with the case lock bolt hole before securing it with new lock bolts. Installation begins with differential housing cover replacement followed by lubricant addition according to specifications and reinstallation of brake disc and brake caliper and wheel and tire assembly. Reactivate air suspension control prior to lowering the vehicle when it is present on the vehicle.
