    Q:
How to service and repair the 9.75-Inch Ring Gear axle shaft on Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the service or repair of the Ford 9.75-Inch Ring Gear axle shaft by disabling the air suspension system at the RH kick panel air suspension switch position in order to avoid unintended air spring inflation or deflation. Climb up the vehicle and secure it properly before extracting the wheel and tire unit followed by removing the differential housing cover and draining the fluid. Start by discarding the lock bolt then pulling out the shaft. After that separate the brake calipers from the discs before proceeding with the differential pinion shaft removal. When you detach the U-washers from axle shaft grooves ensure that the rubber O-rings remain protected by sliding the axle shafts inboard. Remove the two axle shafts before finishing by preserving the wheel bearing oil seal from damage. The moment to install involves lubricating the wheel bearing oil seal with Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or equivalent Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B which must be done before placing the two axle shafts in while keeping the wheel bearing oil seal protected from damage. You should place U-washers on the button ends of axle shafts and extend the shafts outward for installation. Install a new pinion shaft lock bolt unless impossible. Then treat threads with Threadlock and Sealer E0AZ-19554-AA or Ford equivalent WSK-M2G351-A5 and position the differential pinion shaft for its case lock bolt hole. Finish the process with a new lock bolt. The next steps include replacing brake discs and differential housing cover installations together with specified lubricant addition to the rear axle housing prior to reattaching wheels and lowering the vehicle.
