2000 Lincoln Navigator Catalytic Converter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the catalytic converter on 2000 Lincoln Navigator?
A: Service and repair operations on the catalytic converter start with raising the vehicle before removing the dual converter Y-pipe. The first step requires you to detach the muffler and tailpipe component followed by separation of electrical wires from both Heated Oxygen Sensors (H02S) and catalyst monitor sensor units. Next, remove the nuts. The procedure requires removing both transfer case skid plate bolts together with the skid plate itself. Following the removal of the two heat shield retaining bolts the transmission support crossmember can be removed. A High-Lift jack should be used to sustain the transmission while you remove all the nuts and bolts as well as the transmission support crossmember. The procedure requires users to remove the nut in vehicles with 4.6L engine but the bolt in vehicles with 5.4L engine. A clamp needs to be removed next while bearing in mind that heating the dual converter Y-pipe joint might be essential for easier removal. To complete installation reverse all steps of the removal procedure then install and place back the dual converter Y-pipe.
