2000 Lincoln Town Car Differential Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the differential cover on 2000 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Before servicing or repairing the differential cover workers must turn off electrical power to the air suspension system through the air suspension switch in the RH kick panel area to avoid unexpected air spring inflation or deflation during work. Position the vehicle on supports before you drain lubricant into a reuse container by removing the bolts and the differential housing cover from its position. First wash the machined areas free of oil from the differential housing and cover and then place a protective material inside the rear axle to avoid possible contamination. The differential housing cover requires a continuous Clear Silicone Rubber F7AZ-19554-CA bead which must be installed before 15 minutes have passed since applying the silicone to prevent new sealant usage. Filling the axle with lubricant should wait until the silicone sealant has fully cured during a one-hour period. Position the differential housing cover before inserting its bolts. Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or an equivalent meeting EST-M2C118-A of Ford specification should be poured into the rear axle to a total of 118 ml (4 oz.) followed by SAE 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant XY-80W90-QL or equivalent WSP-M2C197-A of Ford specification per the 1.8 liters (3.75 pints). Then install the fill plug. Lowering the vehicle should only occur after restoring the air suspension operation in vehicles that utilize this system.
