2001 Lincoln Town Car Differential Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Differential Cover on 2001 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Before handling differential housing cover machinery operators must first turn off electrical power to the air suspension system by disabling the air suspension switch in right-hand kick panel area to block unexpected air spring deflation during service. The vehicle receives a lift and structural support while drain oil into a cleaning container through differential housing cover bolt removal. Begin by cleaning away all oil from machined surfaces of both covers and then wrap the interior of the rear axle to stop contamination from occurring. Use Clear Silicone Rubber F7AZ-19554-CA or a Ford ESB-M4G92-A equivalent sealant to apply a continuous bead onto the differential housing cover. Install the silicone immediately after application or expect to lose the silicone properties. Bang a suitable silicone sealer like Clear Silicone Rubber F7AZ-19554-CA or an equivalent according to the Ford specification ESB-M4G92-A to the differential housing cover. Allow the silicone sealant to set for one hour before adding lubricant into the axle. Position the differential housing cover onto its respective position then bolt it in. To execute the Traction-Lok axle lubrication begin by adding 118 ml (4 oz) of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equivalent product for this Ford specification EST-M2C118-A. Subsequently fill the rear axle with 1.8 liters (3.75 pints) of SAE 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant XY-80W90-QL or an equivalent product for Ford specification WSP-M2C197-A followed by the installation of the fill plug. Before performing the vehicle lowering procedure activate the air suspension when the gearbox features this component.
