How to service and repair the starter motor on 2000 Mercury Mystique?

To fix a starter motor, loosen the positive brush connector nut, disconnect then solenoid and loosen the drive end housing. Pull out the output shaft, and leave the armature thrust ball. Take off the thrust washer, brush end plate and armature. To assemble it follow the steps in reverse, apply low-temperature grease to the armature shaft.
