How to service and repair the Vehicle Speed Sensor on 2001 Ford Escape?

The turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor requires service by first lifting the vehicle on stands followed by left-hand front wheel removal together with the splash shield. Start by placing a drain pan under the TSS sensor then disconnect its electrical connector before removing the sensor through bolt removal. The TSS sensor bore needs an inspection to check for any damage on the O-ring seal which should be replaced with a new seal if present. Apply petroleum jelly with a light layer to the TSS sensor O-ring before connecting the electrical connector and taking out the drain pan. Install the splash shield and the left-hand front wheel completely before lowering the vehicle down. Check the transmission fluid level and replace it with Mercon(R) V Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-5-QM or equivalent fluids which fulfill Mercon(R) V specifications before starting the engine while moving the transaxle range selector through all positions.
