How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter on 2001 Ford Explorer Sport?

In order to replace the automatic transmission fluid filter, unclip the heat shield, empty the fluid, and get rid of the fluid pan. Wipe out the old gasket and filter and wipe out the pan. Install a new filter and gasket, screw tightening and refill with Mercon(R) V fluid and check the level and function.
