2001 Ford F-150 Brake Caliper Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the brake caliper on 2001 Ford F-150?
A: Start brake caliper servicing and repair operations by disconnecting the rear disc brake caliper from its position then removing all brake fluid. Install the caliper in a vise while using low air pressure through the fluid port to push the rear disc brake piston out by inserting a block of wood between the caliper bridge and the piston. The service procedure begins by removing the piston followed by discarding the piston seal and dust boot but experts must avoid honing the cylinder bore because pistons are not obtainable for honed cylinder bores and replacement of a new rear disc brake caliper is required when the bore shows excessive scoring or corrosion. Assembly requires new components for piston seal and dust boot while drainage of brake fluid should use a replacement supply. Place High Performance DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB or an equivalent fluid from Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A onto the cylinder bore and piston seal and rear disc brake piston and dust boot before carefully installing the piston seal and dust boot to prevent damage. Finally, install the rear disc brake piston followed by the rear disc brake caliper.
