2001 Ford Mustang Catalytic Converter Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the catalytic converter on 2001 Ford Mustang?
A: The repair and servicing process of the catalytic converter starts by properly lifting and supporting the vehicle. Perform this task by unconnecting all heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) and catalyst monitor sensors at their wiring terminals to avoid potential hardware damage. The RH and LH HO2S connectors need removal before proceeding to disconnect the RH and LH catalyst monitor sensor connectors. Service the dual converter assembly by removing its nuts followed by exhaust manifold flange nuts until the dual converter assembly can be taken out. The pipe cutting point starts 226.8 mm (9.07 inches) from two spot welds for a total removal of 13 mm (0.52 inches) from the LH dual converter. The LH dual converter and RH dual converter pipe should be positioned next to each other and both inserted into a sleeve before clamping and tightening them to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). After reinstalling dual converter assembly nuts and reattaching RH and LH HO2S connectors followed by RH and LH catalyst monitor sensor connectors complete the process by lowering the vehicle.
