2001 Ford Taurus Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2001 Ford Taurus?
A: Service or repair work on the oil pan starts by raising and supporting the vehicle and proceeding with the removal of the front RH wheel combined with the RH front inner wheel splash shield by unfastening their retaining screws and pin-type hardware. The following step involves removing the dual converter Y-pipe but make sure to drain all engine oil before installing a new drain plug gasket along with tightening the drain plug to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Remove engine to transaxle bracket bolts, torque converter inspection cover and lastly the eighteen bolts fastening the oil pan. Install a new gasket on the oil pan after cleaning its engine and oil pan sealing surfaces with Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent WSE-M5B392-A solution. Apply a 10 mm (0.40 inch) diameter dot of Silicone Gasket and Sealer F7AZ-19554-EA equivalent WSE-M4G323-A4 at specified points before fastening the oil pan within six minutes. First tighten the oil pan to transaxle bolts with hand force and then follow the specified bolt sequence for tightening the oil pan bolts. Complete by tightening the oil pan to transaxle bolts again. First install the torque converter inspection cover before putting the engine to transaxle bracket into position then attach the nuts and bolt. The technician should reinstall the dual converter Y-pipe followed by the RH front inner wheel splash shield with screws and pin-type retainer and finally secure the RH wheel. Lower the vehicle until you install both LH exhaust manifold to pipe nuts and complete the crankcase with Super Premium SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP or equivalent oil that follows Ford specification WSS-M2C153-H.
