2001 Lincoln LS Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2001 Lincoln LS?
A: Begin service and repair of the timing cover by taking off first the right-hand (RH) then left-hand (LH) valve covers after which the belt idler pulley and water pump become targets for removal along with disconnecting both upper and lower radiator hoses. You must eliminate the oil pan and power steering pump together with hydraulic cooling fan pump before removing the crankshaft front oil seal and belt tensioner. The service requires removal of the bracket while disconnecting electrical connectors that connect to the camshaft position (CMP) sensor and crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. Launch the removal of the fuel supply manifold bolt and engine front cover securing bolts while discarding the gasket for replacement. Installation of the engine front cover requires cleaning of its sealing areas along with the engine surfaces followed by application of Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent WSE-M4G323-A4 material to marked areas. Install the front cover within six minutes after sealer application. Attach the new gasket before you set the front cover into position and proceed to tighten bolts according to their specified sequence. First, reinstall the fuel supply manifold bolt then attach CKP and CMP sensor electrical connectors followed by installation of the bucket and crankshaft front oil seal. Start with installing the belt tensioner bolt before adding the hydraulic cooling fan pump and power steering pump and oil pan. The radiator hoses should be reconnected following installation of the water pump alongside the belt idler pulley while the LH and RH valve covers need to be put back during the last step of filling the cooling system.
