2001 Lincoln Navigator Brake Disc Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Disc on 2001 Lincoln Navigator?
A: The front disc brake caliper anchor plate must be removed first in order to perform maintenance on the brake rotor/disc. The brake disc needs removal for 4x4 vehicles during servicing operations. The procedure for disc resurfacing calls for on-board rotor machining which should comply with manufacturer instructions for the lathe. Begin hub and disc removal for 4x2 vehicles by disassembling these components through successive removal of hub grease cap followed by cotter pin, nut retainer and spindle nut, front wheel outer bearing retainer washer and outer front wheel bearing before taking off brake disc and hub. You should apply the same machine-on-vehicle method to perform resurfacing operations. Proceed with the removal of two components: the wheel hub grease seal along with the inner section of the front wheel bearing. To mount the brake disc on 4x4 vehicles the brake part requires Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA or its equivalent for cleaning. If servicing 4x2 vehicles front wheel bearings and brake disc and hub components use the same cleaner for thorough cleaning and inspection purposes. After which you should lubricate the front wheel bearings with Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or-K or an equivalent material tested against Ford specification ESA-M1C198-A. Position the new wheel hub grease seal before installing the front wheel bearings in their proper order then install brake disc and hub. Install the brake disc along with the hub while adding the outer front wheel bearing together with front wheel outer bearing retainer washer and spindle nut. The process of front wheel bearing end play adjustment requires rotating the brake disc while tightening the spindle nut followed by loosening it two turns before finally tightening it again upon disc rotation at a counterclockwise angle. The spindle nut requires another adjustment by initial loosening followed by retightening. The last installation step involves attaching the nut retainer followed by the cotter pin, hub grease cap along with the front disc brake caliper anchor plate.
