2001 Mercury Grand Marquis Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: The brake shift interlock actuator service demands a safety protocol that entails draining the back up power source to stop air bag system activation. Disconnect the battery ground cable while waiting for at least one minute, along with any equipped auxiliary batteries and power supplies. First secure the lower steering column opening finish panel by removing its screw and moving the parking brake release handle aside. After removing this screw you can use a pull action to release the retaining clips. Proceed by unscrewing the five bolts holding the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement and then unscrew and detach the four screws from the instrument panel reinforcement brace. Detach the selector lever indicator cable through the procedure of screw loosening and cable disconnecting. You must remove four nuts for lowering the steering column before removing three bolts to divide the shift lock actuator from the transmission shift selector position insert and the steering column. The last step of installation requires disconnecting the electrical connector followed by reversing the removal procedure starting with the transmission shift selector position insert and shift lock actuator.
