How to service and repair the main A/C Switch assembly on 2001 Mercury Villager?

The ground cable of the battery needs to be disconnected first before performing service and repairs on the main climate control assembly. The service procedure starts with ashtray/cup holder assembly removal through tab unlocking followed by disconnecting its electrical connection. Pull out the console cover through four pin-type retainer removal. Service the main climate control assembly by first unscrewing then disconnecting the cigarette lighter electrical connector from the instrument panel center finish panel. Remove the control head by unscrewing it first and then taking it out while paying attention to the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) display since the manual version functions similarly. You should disconnect all electrical connectors which are part of the control head assembly. Perform installation by handling the uninstallation steps in opposite order.
