2001 Mercury Villager Water Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2001 Mercury Villager?
A: You should drain the engine cooling system at the beginning before servicing or repairing the water pump. An initial step entails removing the crankshaft pulley together with the water pump pulley through bolt extraction. The service begins with removing the six bolts that hold the lower timing belt cover and lowering the vehicle down. The upper radiator hose needs detaching by first eliminating its bolt then loosening clamps to access the coolant bypass hose that needs its clamps released. The A/C compressor idler pulley and bracket need to be removed after unbolted the required pieces. The wiring harness should be set aside through unclipping while the technician disconnects the vacuum reservoir vacuum hose. The main wire harness must be unclipped for repositioning while setting aside another wire harness together with the wire harness bracket containing an unclipped spark plug wire without its bolt. The PCV breather hoses and tube need removal after both clamps release and the bolt extraction. Seven bolts securing the upper timing belt cover need removal before you remove both the upper and lower timing belt covers. When the stud is removed mark its position before removing the six bolts from the water pump. The water pump mounting surface requires a 2.0 - 3.0mm (0.079 - 0.118 inch) bead of Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA which meets Ford Specification WSK-M2G343-A4 before following the reverse installation process.
