A suitable spanner will lock the piston rod in place before technicians uninstall the upper mounting retaining nut of the shock absorber. After supporting the vehicle at height you need to take off the shock absorber. Complete all retention bolt and retaining nut tightening when the car stands on its road wheels. First tighten the lower retaining bolt only to a partial degree before you install the shock absorber then guide the piston rod through the locating hole.
