After that step you must pull the parking brake cable and rearward equalizer. The removal of the steel pin should happen only after connecting the parking brake cable and equalizer/rear cable and conduits to the parking brake control because pulling out the pin will cause tension in the ratchet wheel to release and let the spring unwind. A steel pin needs insertion through holes in the lever that connects to the ratchet wheel for tension retention.
