2002 Ford Ranger Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2002 Ford Ranger?
A: Service and repair of the oil pan starts by extracting the entire engine from the vehicle and then uninstalling every component of the engine oil level indicator assembly followed by removal of the engine oil level indicator and its bolts together with the engine oil level indicator tube. After extracting all bolts you should take out the oil pan. Keep the oil pan sealing surfaces free of scratches by avoiding metal scrapers along with wire brushes and abrasive tools because these tools can cause leaks but using a plastic scraping tool will remove all sealant traces while inspecting for mating surface cleanliness during installation. The sealant needs removal when four minutes pass after its application to the oil pan unless a proper security process has been followed. You must install the oil pan while applying no more than 2.5 mm bead of silicone gasket and sealant that needs to be completed in four minutes. Start by applying engine oil to the O-ring prior to engine oil level indicator tube and bolt installation followed by the engine oil level indicator placement. Reinstall the engine as the final step of the procedure.
