Service and repair of the oil pan starts with removing the engine from the vehicle and following steps to uninstall the engine oil level indicator assembly through removal of the engine oil level indicator and its bolts and tube. Drain the oil pan by removing all its bolts. The installation of the oil pan requires a plastic scrape tool instead of metal scrapers or wire brushes to clean sealing surfaces because scratches from these tools could cause leaks. Sealant removal and subsequent cleaning of the sealing area using metal surface cleaner becomes necessary when the oil pan takes longer than four minutes to secure after sealant application. The sealant operation must finish within four minutes before securing the oil pan using the bolts. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate the O-ring before adding the engine oil level indicator tube and bolt then securely installing the indicator. Reinstall the vehicular engine after the completion of all steps.
