2003 Ford F-150 Brake Pedal Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the adjustable brake pedal assembly on 2003 Ford F-150?
A: Begin service on the adjustable brake pedal assembly only after positioning both the brake pedal and accelerator pedal forward or backward fully before you remove the ground cable from the battery. The procedure starts by removing the instrument panel opening cover followed by removing the stoplight switch hairpin clip and sliding out the stoplight switch and booster push rod and bushing from the brake pedal pin. The service requires disconnecting both the accelerator pedal cable from the brake to accelerator linkage and breaking the electrical connection to the brake pedal motor. First loosen the pedal spring and afterward remove both the brake pedal nut and bolt to extract the brake pedal. First position the brake pedal with bushings at the pivot tube ends before installing the brake pedal bolt followed by the nut then placing the pedal spring. Put back the brake pedal motor electrical connector onto its port and guide the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable into the accelerator pedal position. Reinstall the battery ground wire while maintaining the brake pedal position alongside the accelerator pedal spot. Adjust the accelerator pedal position with the brake pedal motor and finally remove the brake pedal cable from the accelerator pedal by pulling its retainer. Thoroughly align the brake pedal to match the accelerator pedal through the brake pedal motor control then return the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable installation. While installing a new accelerator pedal you should first move the brake pedal to its correct position prior to connecting the cable. Install the brake pedal pin with stoplight switch and booster push rod and bushing while attaching the stoplight switch hairpin clip before putting back the instrument panel opening cover.
