2003 Lincoln LS Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Maintenance of the Transmission Pan on a 2003 Lincoln LS?
A: Before servicing the transmission fluid pan, gasket and filter you must lubricate their seals with new automatic transmission fluid then set the seals precisely onto the filter. The transmission fluid pan gasket can be reused unless showing damage where you need to inspect it before reusing it. The service requires installing an entirely new transmission filter. Set the vehicle to neutral position then mount it on a hoisting system before removing the components according to their installation order. Follow the reverse order for installation while keeping the transmission partially filled. Use tools to disconnect heated oxygen sensor connectors along with extracting the sensor wire retaining clip from the right side of the transmission pan rail. Move and secure the heated oxygen sensor connector which is attached to the front position of the transmission pan rail. Lubricate the fluid filter seals twice before installing the transmission fluid filter. Following installation of the transmission fluid pan alongside its gasket it is necessary to install screws loosely before completing a crisscross tightening of all screws. Secure the heated oxygen sensor connector at the transmission pan rail front while connecting all heated oxygen sensor connectors and installing the sensor wire retaining clip at the right side of the pan rail.
