2004 Ford E-250 A/C Expansion Valve Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the A/C Expansion Valve on 2004 Ford E-250?
A: The only acceptable use of Refrigerant Compressor Oil (Mineral Oil) F73Z-19577-AA (Motorcraft YN-9-A) during thermostatic expansion valve service operations is to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals but avoid adding it to the A/C compressor lubricant. A user should apply PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or an equivalent which fulfills Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B for A/C compressor lubrication. You should begin the process by unmounting the A/C evaporator core while safeguarding the capillary bulb and tube from damage. Unfasten the capillary bulb from its position on the outer evaporator outlet tube while removing the reusable A/C insulating tape then remove the attaching clip between the bulb and tube. A wrench should be used on each side of the fitting to prevent damage before refrigerant line disconnect. The following step is removal of the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV). To install the parts follow the removal procedure while replacing the O-rings with newly lubricated mineral oil seals.
