2004 Ford Expedition Mass Air Flow Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How is the Mass Air Flow Sensor Serviced on 2004 Ford Expedition?
A: The first step for serving the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is to disconnect the battery ground cable. The MAF sensor should not have its sensing elements touched to stop unit failure since MAF sensor modules and bodies operate as complete units. Merge the extension harness connector of the MAF sensor with the wiring harness by removing it from its position on the air cleaner unit. Detach the air cleaner clamp before you remove the inlet port from the outlet port of the air cleaner unit. The wire harness extension must have the tape cut and exposed near the grommet inside the air cleaner. Pull out the grommet from the air cleaner outlet opening before directing it down the extension cord. Start by taking out the MAF sensor plate together with the MAF sensor from the air cleaner outlet. Then disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector from the extension harness and remove the nuts from the MAF sensor plate to separate the plate from the sensor. An installation procedure requires that the engine air cleaner housing grommet from the extension harness must be fully inserted to stop unmetered air from reaching the engine while utilizing the alignment notch for air cleaner alignment between inlet and outlet through reversed removal steps.
