Mass Air Flow Sensor

The first step for fixing the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor requires you to remove the air cleaner inlet and outlet assembly while being cautious to avoid touching the sensing elements in the MAF sensor since such contact could cause unit failure. The MAF sensor module functions together with its body during both calibration and servicing at the same time. The following steps should be applied to remove components while referring to the provided diagram and table. First disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector on the outlet side of the air cleaner then slide down the grommet from its outlet position before finally removing the MAF sensor plate from the outlet side and the MAF sensor. The installation requires complete seating of the grommet for sealing the wiring harness against engine air cleaner entry to stop unmetered air from entering the engine. Afterward, install the sensor grommet. To finish the setup you must do the opposite of removal.

The service procedure for Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor starts by disconnecting the battery ground cable and opening the air cleaner. Service of the MAF sensor begins by disconnecting wires from the harness then freeing the clamp before splitting the air cleaner into intake and outtake compartments. Modifying the sensing elements of the MAF sensor will result in unit failure and requires service to both the MAF sensor module and body as an integral unit. The wire loom's extension harness tape must be cut to reveal its area near the grommet found on the air cleaner. First detach the outlet grommet of the air cleaner and insert it toward the extension harness. Detach the MAF sensor plate and MAF sensor which are located at the outlet side of the air cleaner before disconnecting the MAF sensor electrical connector from the harness extension and completing the removal of the MAF sensor plate by removing its nuts. Reverse the previous steps for installation while confirming that the grommet at the extension harness properly seals against engine air cleaner housing entry of unmetered air. The air cleaner needs alignment through the built-in notch on the device.

Release the air cleaner clamp and separate the inlet side from the outlet side of the air cleaner, taking care not to tamper with the sensing elements in the MAF sensor.

Use the alignment notch to correctly align the inlet and outlet sides of the air cleaner, reversing the removal procedure.

Reverse the removal procedure, ensuring that the grommet sealing the engine air cleaner housing at the extension harness is fully seated to prevent unmetered air from entering the engine.
