- Q: How to Initialize the Rear Power Window Motor on 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?A: The beginning of the rear window motor operation requires verifying that the power rear window system is free from any interference. The rear window motor arrives in error mode so it requires initialization before operation. The initialization step needs to be performed every time any work takes place on the power rear window system or following the application of lubricants. The installation procedure of all necessary components including window glass module, window regulator, window motor and glass runs needs to be completed at proper torque specification points before beginning setup. Turn the ignition to ON while keeping the ignition key in OFF position and open the driver door. First press the power rear window control switch vent button six times, then shift the ignition to OFF position while keeping the driver door open. Press the power rear window control switch vent button six more times before turning the ignition to the ON position and the window will drop 20 mm (0.8 in) up and down twice indicating initialization mode has started. The control switch should remain in the CLOSE position until the window reaches the upper header seal after which you must briefly press the OPEN position. The system will carry out one-touch down functionality until reaching the bottom position of its travel stop.
