2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Dimmer Switch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the instrument panel dimmer switch on 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: The instrument panel dimmer switch requires a battery removal as a first step. The first step requires removing the center instrument panel finish panel after unscrewing it along with disconnecting all electrical connectors. You should remove the screws then put the hood latch release handle to the side. The instrument panel steering column cover should be uninstallable with screw removal followed by separation of the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement. Gather the controls for the column-mounted transmission range selector lever to the side before unscrewing the panel supporting the instrument cluster finish. Pull the panel entirely out from the instrument panel space. Disconnection of the dimmer switch electrical wires together with the headlamps' wires allows complete removal of the instrument cluster finish panel. The instrument panel dimmer switch needs its screws to be taken out. The new dimmer switch installation requires following the opposite order of removal steps.
